“Super Hyphy” producer Traxamillion has passed away at the age of 42, according to a post made by entertainment news platform Thizzler On The Roof.
“Rest In Peace @traxamillion. The San Jose producer who helped create the “Hyphy” sound passed away today,” Thizzler On The Roof posted on Twitter. “This is a huge loss for Northern California. We send our condolences to his family & loved ones. #RIPTraxamillion.”
While some sources claim that cancer took the life of the Bay-Area producer, this information has not been confirmed.
Born Sultan Banks in 1979, Traxamillion has worked alongside Too Short, E-40, Keak da Sneak, and Mistah F.A.B. The producer became a staple of the hyphy movement when he released his independent album The Slapp Addict in 2006, with hit songs such as “The Sideshow” with Too Short and Mistah F.A.B., “Grown Man Remix” featuring Dem Hoodstarz, Mistah F.A.B., Turf Talk, San Quinn and Clyde Carson, and “From the Hood” with Husalah, Jacka, and San Quinn.
In 2009, he released the EP 808, followed by EP The Trapp Addict and artist compilation album The Tech Boom in 2016. In 2020, Traxamillion was on his grind, releasing the instrumental-based album Super Beat Fighter and a nine-track collaborative album with City Shawn called For the City. His last album, Sirens, was released in May 2021. The compilation album, led by singles “Madness” and “Big D,” featured all-female artists. In between his numerous albums, Traxamillion managed to produce several projects for Bay-Area artists.
With so many cultural icons passing away, it’s getting to the point that headlines are saturated with this news. In light of that, we choose to honor those in the arts by celebrating their music and legacy. Rest in peace to yet another hip hop trailblazer.
