Blumhouse Horror Flick ‘The Black Phone,’ Based On Short Story By Stephen King’s Son Joe Hill, Plays On Our Worst Childhood Fears [Trailer]

There’s a childhood phrase that never grows old, “Never talk to strangers.” Sinister and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson delivers Blumhouse horror film The Black Phone, starring Ethan Hawke, Jeremy Davies, James Ransone, Madeleine McGraw, and Mason Thames.

Finney (Thames) finds himself in quite a predicament when the 13-year-old is abducted by a notorious child killer and locked in a soundproof basement. In a weird turn of events, his best friend and sister Gwen (McGraw) starts having dreams that reveal clues to where Finney may be.

Meanwhile, Finney is having his own odd visions when a phone call comes through on a black phone lodged on the wall of the basement. Past victims of the child killer give Finney clues and advice to help free him from the murderer.

The Universal Pictures and Crooked Highway pic is based on a short story by Joe Hill, son of infamous writer Stephen King and executive producer of the film, alongside executive producers Ryan Turek and Christopher H. Warner. The screenplay is written by Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill.

The Black Phone releases in theaters on Feb. 4, 2021.
