Fans will finally have access to music legend Prince’s first autobiography three years after the beloved singer-songwriter passed away from an alleged accidental prescription drug overdose at the age of 57.
Prince was found dead in the elevator at his home on April 21, 2016. At the time of his death, writer Dan Piepenbring was employed to help Prince with his first memoir.
The estate allowed Piepenbring to have access to Prince’s vault at his Paisley Park home in Minnesota, which contained all of his personal thoughts written in journals and unreleased lyrics and music.
After extensive research, the memoir Prince: The Beautiful Ones will be released to the public for fans to enjoy on Tuesday, Oct. 29th.
Similar to Prince’s film Purple Rain, the book focuses on Prince’s tumultuous experience growing up with volatile parents.
It delves into the subject of domestic violence, divorce and ultimately how this impacted Prince’s music. The Grammy-winning artist also explores his battle with seizures and blackouts as a young child.
The introduction of the book consists of Piepenbring explaining how he was able to complete the book after Prince’s death.
Prince had only written 28 pages when he died. Piepenbring ended up using everything from quick notes to drawings to piece the final version of the book together. The book is published by Spiegel & Grau, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
A book release party is scheduled at Paisley Park on Nov. 1. Piepenbring will be speaking at the event, which will be followed by a party featuring all of Prince’s music at local club NPG Music Club.
