Tory Lanez Works On Good Karma, Donates $50K To Help Families With Legal Fees And Jail Bail

Tory Lanez used his time on Friday to meet families that will be benefiting from his generous donation to Unite The People, Inc., a California-based nonprofit organization that helps people fight for social justice.

The “Do the Most” rapper donated $50,000 to aid individuals who are incarcerated pay their legal fees, bail, and to further causes that free the wrongly convicted. Lanez, born Daystar Peterson, who is a part of the board of Unite The People, visited the Long Beach, CA facility to meet and speak with family members and friends of the incarcerated following his donation.

The organization was co-founded by Ceasar McDowell in 2014 after he served a 20-year bid at the San Quentin State Prison under an illegal sentence.

“Unite the People, Inc. is dedicated to assisting the lives of those trying to better themselves while serving their time,” a statement on the Unite The People website reads. “We also notice the disproportionate difference between sentencing that some people receive in comparison to others. Our justice system needs reform from laws to the penal institutions themselves. We work on creating and pushing campaigns that aim to make an actual difference in the lives of our loved ones incarcerated.”

Unite The People is supported by volunteers, a group of defense attorneys, community activists, and donations from the public. Recently, the organization has grown to a chapter in Philadelphia, and plans to expand in other major metropolitan areas.
