Kanye West is giving fans (and haters) an opportunity to attend the listening party for his tenth studio album, Donda. Live Nation announced the upcoming event on Instagram.
“@KanyeWest Presents A Donda Listening Event at @MercedesBenzStadium in Atlanta, GA this Thursday, July 22 at 8pm,” the post was captioned.
Donda is a tribute to his late mother Donda West. The album was recorded in Hawaii and Wyoming. Over 2020, West has released snippets of songs and the cover artwork to the public. On Monday, the rapper producer held a private listening party in Las Vegas.
West has been through a lot in the past few years as he wrangled with controversial political associations, moved to a ranch in Wyoming, and dealt with divorcing the mother of his children, Kim Kardashian. He also had to come to terms with the rapid changes in the music industry, as his album sales took a dive. His 2018 album Ye sold over 85,000 albums and was No. 1 on US charts, but only managed to obtain a Gold certification from RIAA. His 2019 follow up, Jesus Is King, sold over 100,000 albums hitting No. 1 on several charts.
Still, it’s odd for West not to reach platinum status, given that his previous albums, The College Dropout (2004), Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007), 808s & Heartbreak (2008), My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010), Yeezus (2013), and The Life of Pablo (2016), all went multi-platinum. Despite his challenges, West also saw himself be named one of the richest people in hip hop and entertainment. West has also suggested he may run for president in the future.
The Atlanta album listening event will be open to the general public with ticket prices starting at $65. Tickets are currently on sale at Ticketmaster.com.
