Music can always uplift the burdened soul during hard times — especially if the song inspires the hips to move. Kenyan artist Amber Lulu makes her entry into the world of inspiring Amapiano music with her head bopping single “Una shingagi,” produced by Daxo Challi.
Accommodating the single, Amber Lulu released the visually enlightening DOP Zizy directed music video showcasing signature South African dances as she marinated in the vibe.

Amber Lulu is as fierce as they come. With a discography that includes her 2018 self-titled EP and singles “Makeke,” “No Control” featuring Mabantu, “Hater,” “Nitie,” and the major 2020 collaborative single “Run Away,” featuring Dee Pesa, Reime Schemes, and Mr. T-Touch, she is well on her way to establishing a solid music career representing the girls.
At the behest of crafty underground DJs, Amapiano has been sweeping dance halls and intimate pubs since 2012. Branded by its heart-pumping basslines, rhythmic synths and mid-tempo drum pads, the South African based genre cross-breeds jazz music with deep house and lounge, inflicting a whole troupe of uniquely choreographed dance.
The genre of music heavily influenced by kwaito is so popular that many have claimed to be the originators of it, although its origins can be traced back to Soweto, Vosloorus, Katlehong and Alexandra — all townships of South African megacity Johannesburg.
Kabza De Small, one of the top Amapiano artists, has done quite well with the genre, becoming Spotify’s top South African artist streamed on the platform in 2019 and 2020. Artists in the northern part of the African continent, such as Burna Boy and Wizkid, have also experimented with Amapiano.
If it hasn’t already, it won’t be long before the hypnotic style of music washes up on the sandy shores of the United States and influence a new segment of music artists.
