Former BET President To Launch RepItSocial App Targeting BIPOC

A new social media app is underway targeting the Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) community. RepItSocial will be a centralized platform for all things BIPOC, where users can share content and ideas.

Created by Jefferi K. Lee, former President of BET Networks, and D’Oyen and Azalaya Fraser, the app will have the option for users to explore pages based on various segments of content, including travel, food, music and the arts.

“This social media network embodies the fresh mindset, voice, and energy of this new generation,” D’Oyen Fraser said. “It will be a tool for us to connect, to celebrate our accomplishments and share our incredible talents.  We don’t say it.  We REP IT!”

A year of protests and discourse about systemic racism reinforced the latest terminology used to reference black people, Native Americans and people of color. Social media has a record of conversations about BIPOC dated back to 2013, according to the New York Times. Interestingly enough, BIPOC is now being used as a way to understand an inclusive market that is representative of diversity.

To join the app, users do not have to be a person of color, but “must be a supporter of people of color and an advocate for our cause.”

“BIPOC isn’t just a group of people, it’s a movement, an awakening across the globe that we are more powerful together,” Lee said. “The timing is ripe for a new kind of social network – one that acknowledges the shared experiences, lifestyle and culture of BIPOC.”

The app is expected to launch in January 2021.
