A legendary soccer player has earned his wings. Diego Maradona, one of the greatest soccer players of all-time, has passed away. He was 60.
Maradona died from heart failure while recovering from a surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain. A statement was released by the Argentine Football Association via Twitter.
“The Argentine Football Association, through its President Claudio Tapia, expresses its deepest sorrow for the death of our legend, Diego Armando Maradona,” the Argentine Football Association announced. “You will always be in our hearts.”
The president of Argentina also expressed his condolences for the untimely passing.
“You took us to the top of the world. You made us immensely happy,” President Alberto Fernandez tweeted. “You were the greatest of all. Thanks for having existed, Diego. We will miss you for a lifetime.”
The Argentinian soccer player was best known for his role as team captain in the 1986 World Cup where he scored against England and served the amazing goal moment referred to as the “Hand of God.”
