Before she became the superstar singer H.E.R., the “Could’ve Been” artist was known as the young child prodigy Gabi Wilson. At the age of 10 years old, she went on the Today Show to perform Alicia Key’s “If I Ain’t Got You.”
Her colossal talent was evident as she belted out the song and played the piano. By that time, and with the support of her parents, she was able to publish a poetry book and learn how to play several instruments. When asked what she wanted to be when she grows up, Wilson knew exactly where her future was headed.
“I want to be a singer, a songwriter and a musician — and I want to also be a dentist because I think taking care of teeth is important!” she said.
Now, nearly 13 years later, the “little Alicia Keys” has grown into H.E.R., a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. An acronym for “Having Everything Revealed,” the singer revels in an aura of mystery, wearing signature eyeglasses and big, curly tresses.
“I want the people to hear the music for what it is, and not have any judgements or make any assumptions,” H.E.R. said.
With two major label studio albums, 2017’s H.E.R. and 2019’s I Used to Know Her, under her belt, she’s managed to win two Grammy Awards, three Soul Train Music Awards, a BET Award, an iHeartRadio Music Award, and two MTV Music Awards.
