Rapper-turned-executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson is building an extension of his empire through his crime series universe. The controversial rapper is applying pressure to his friendly staple of competition with the premiere of Power Book III: Raising Kanan and the upcoming series BMF.
Jackson attended the premiere party held at Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City on Thursday (July 15), alongside cast members Mekai Curtis and Omar Epps. Set in the ’90s, Raising Kanan delves into the childhood upbringing of Kanan, originally played by 50 Cent in the original Power series, and his relationship with his drug dealing mother Raquel Raq Thomas.
Watch the cast break down the new series:
Created by Sascha Penn, the prequel series stars Malcolm M. Mays, Omar Epps, Hailey Kilgore, and Patina Miller. When asked whether viewers will see a young Ghost or Tommy in the prequel, 50 Cent gives fans hope.
“Potentially later you’ll see a version, probably a younger guy,” said 50 Cent in an interview on ThisIs50. “There’s potential that you’ll see young Tommy and Ghost.”
The first episode of Power Book III: Raising Kanan kicks off on Sunday, July 18 on Starz.
In other 50 Cent news, Starz also released the official teaser for the family crime drama series BMF, based on the infamous Detroit drug ring family Black Mafia Family. The teaser gives a sneak peak of a character played by La La Anthony fancifully dressed in a nightclub, along with what appears to be Demetrius “Big Meech” Flenory. Watch the trailer below.
BMF premieres Sept. 26 on STARZ.
